 European Craft Days (ECD) (CLOSED)

The European Craft Days (ECD), coordinated by Institut pour les Savoir-Faire Français, is the first international event dedicated to crafts, and this year the event will run from the 7th to the 12th of April, with the theme ‘With Heart and Soul’.

While this event continues to promote the value of craftsmanship as a vital part of Europe’s cultural heritage and creative future, this year shifts the focus from the solitary maker to the shared effort. It connects the “Heart” (passion) with the “Soul” (discipline). It celebrates the transmission of technique from hand to hand.

BE ON THE MAP!!

The 2026 edition will build on the success of previous years, with hundreds of craftspeople and organisations opening their doors and sharing their knowledge, skills, and stories to over 1 million people around Europe. We wish to encourage you to take advantage of these days, and entice people to participate in workshops to learn about the different crafts being practised locally and the skills required.

As part of our efforts and promotion in relation to this event, we plan to build on last year’s interactive map, where we will show the location of artisan’s workshop, placing the spotlight on those based in Regjun Port, as this region takes on the role of the Region of Culture for 2026.

Register your interest

Register your interest for the 2026 edition of the European Crafts Days through the form, by Monday 22nd February:
https://forms.gle/jqkg5sahVHUNpQRNA

Through the form you can simply provide details of your shop / studio, asking people to visit you during your opening hours, or by appointment. Also, you can provide information about any workshops that you would like to carry out during these days. Those who wish to provide workshops but are unable to do this from their own premises should highlight this need so that we can try to find other locations which can allow you to showcase your talent, possibly within your own locality.

We encourage you to make the most of these great opportunities to raise more awareness about yourself and your craft!

All inquiries may be directed to info@maltacrafts.org .

DESIGN COMPETITION (CLOSED)

OPEN CALL FOR ILLUSTRATORS

In 2026, it will be the Port Region’s turn to take the title of Region of Culture. To mark this exciting designation, we are seeking a talented illustrator or graphic designer to create a compelling and original logo that captures the identity of our region and its 11 different localities, specifically paying homage to the region’s rich industrial and coastal heritage. The chosen design should reflect the diversity of the Port Region, while also presenting a fresh and imaginative vision for its cultural future. A concept note has been provided detailing the main aspects we believe would be relevant to highlight.

In general, the logo should stand out visually and any versions shared would have to be adaptable and suitable for a wide range of uses, from digital platforms to printed materials and merchandise. In addition to the primary logo, the selected illustrator will be required to submit a branding manual of at least two pages, including variations of the logo, adaptations suitable for younger audiences, and high-quality files in both JPEG and vector formats.

The total fee for this commission is set at €1000 (excluding VAT). This fee covers the final logo design as well as the complete branding manual.

Submissions will be evaluated based on the following criteria: creativity and originality, relevance to the theme and purpose and aesthetic quality and visual impact.

HOW TO APPLY

Interested illustrators should submit a portfolio or samples of previous work, and a draft concept or sketch of their logo idea. Applicants should also outline their initial thoughts on how the logo might be adapted for different audiences. All materials must be sent to regjun-port.dlg@gov.mt.

The deadline for submissions is Monday, 18 August 2025 at 12:00 PM (noon). Late submissions will not be considered. For any further questions or clarifications, please contact +356 99801932.

We look forward to seeing your creative vision!
