Synopsis

SALVU, huwa ħaddiem tat-tarzna, illum penzjonant. Sitt xhur ilu martu MARIJA mietet. F’dan il-mument, skopra li Marija kienet qed tiffinanzja bil-moħbi l-vizzju tad-droga ta’ binhom David, u dan wassal għal sentejn kera mhux imħallsa. Ħass ħajtu tikkrolla quddiemu. Mkeċċi minn daru, fejn qatta’ ħajtu kollha, ġie mġiegħel jagħmel wisa’ għall-iżviluppaturi, Salvu jmur jgħix f’garaxx umdu u mhux sigur flimkien man-neputi tiegħu ta’ tmien snin, Zack. Salvu jiġġieled battalja mitlufa kontra sistema li tqis l-imħabba tiegħu bħala “inadegwata” minħabba l-faqar tiegħu. Meta David jisraq l-unika konnessjoni li kellu Zack m’ommu mejta—mowbajl—ir-rabta tal-familja fl-aħħar tinqata’. Id-dramm jilħaq il-quċċata tiegħu f’ultimatum kiefer mingħand social worker: Salvu jrid jagħti lil Zack għall-foster care biex jipprovdilu “ħajja aħjar,” u b’hekk iħalli lil Salvu waħdu fid-dellijiet tal-belt, mbeżża’ u li m’għadux jagħraf.

Synopsis

SALVU, a former Dockyard worker, is now a pensioner. Six months ago, his wife MARIA passed away. Soon after her death, he discovers that she had secretly been financing their son David’s drug addiction, leaving behind two years of unpaid rent. In an instant, Salvu watches the life he had built unravel before him. Forced out of the home where he had spent his entire life to make way for developers, Salvu finds himself living in a damp garage with his eight-year-old nephew, Zack. As he struggles to provide stability and care, Salvu fights a losing battle against a system that deems his love inadequate simply because of his poverty. When David steals the last remaining keepsake Zack has of his late mother—a mobile phone—the fragile bonds holding the family together are finally shattered. The story reaches its climax when a social worker delivers a harsh ultimatum: Salvu must surrender Zack to foster care so that the boy can be given a “better life.” Left alone in the shadows of a city he no longer recognises, Salvu is left to face a future shaped by fear.
